Few days back Union minister for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh claimed that the Himalayan glaciers have stopped melting. The government report stated that there was no conclusive evidence to prove that the himalayan glaciers are melting due to climate change. Then Rajendra Pachauri, a member of the prime minister's (PM's) advisory council on climate change and director general of The Energy and Resources Institute (Teri) rubbished the statement by calling the research ‘unscientific’.
Last year I was on a trek in Himachal Pradesh, a place called triund. Triund is nested quietly at 9,500 ft and over looks the lower Himalayan range named Dhauladuar. A small glacier called the laka glacier which has receded almost 30%. The locals can’t really do anything as this is the effect of the larger, global warming eating its way into over 15,000 glaciers in the Himalayas.
North India has primarily been a plain fed by glacial silt and water. Irrigation will be a direct hit, there by not only affecting the farm productivity but impacting the livelihood of millions. There is nothing really these people can do, it’s just their fate that some one chugging down their fancy carbon emitting car is destroying the natural cycle.
The irony of the situation is that the whole world is completely dependant on fossil fuels. From basic household use, to cars, industries, power plants and transport are all directly linked to fossil fuel. As population expands so does consumption. You don’t need any movie titled 2012 or some bogus rhetoric from an environment conservator, all you need to do is contribute. You all know that well if not an ice age something really bad is going to happen. And yes its all because of you and only you, me being a part.
Like gerorge carlin said ' The earth will shed us like a bad case of disease '

BING !!!
Google, do i need to say more. A web site that can offer you everthing under the Sun. Master creation by two very young lads and my idols, Larry Page and Seregey Brin. But PC dictators Microsoft arnt silent either. They launched the new searh engine Bing -http://www.bing.com/ 2 days ago.
Its got a google like theme, with one large search bar with options of web, photos, videos news and more. A clever attempt by the microsoft team to break the google internet monopoly, quite frankly its just a rip off. Though the photo option is much easier than google, the video function bar is also cool, you just need to place the cursor on the video and it gives an instant preview. For all my news related search i really like the google news bar and alert system. But bing get a minus on its poor news search.
I used to be a yahoo and hotmail loyalist but google offers me everthing
I got gmail, g chat , blogger , picasa and youtube. Why should i use Bing ????

IPL - I hate , I despise, I'd kill IPL if it where a person
IPL was a Fantastic invention by that Lalit modhi and Co that would change the feel of cricket. It was a milestone to Indian cricket by giving cricket an all new meaning. The High-speed Game packed is with half nude cheerleaders, cool jerseys, heavy advertising and plenty revenue.
Fact – IPL is a money making racket
Folks no body cares bout who wins or looses or that damn spirit of cricket. Its all about the money baby. Imagine the government had to take a decision over which made priority, IPL or Elections. That Lalit modhi and his BCCI junta had the Balls to ask the government top postpone the elections. Seriously that’s a joke.
Fact – IPL – rip off of EPL
For all you who don’t know, EPL stands for English premier League. They even copied the Name, jokers. Am sorry I am not going to support Bangalore royal challengers who have only a few Bangalore lads playing for them. I love Bangalore, but I hate Bangalore Royal challengers. Mallaya will loose IPL and Formula One. But he is a smart man, he sponsors 5 teams. He does not care he will make his money in any case. But you will still go ahed and drink his beer, finally cry after your team looses.
Fact – Bollywood factor
First they ruin Indian cinema and now they are going all out on cricket. Bloody blooywood.
What do shilpa shetty, sharukh khan and preity zinta have in common ?.... bollywood. They also have one more thing in common, IPL. KKR is screwed thanks to the charismatic Khan. SRK ‘chak de’ was a movie, but this is real life mate, move on your kolkata knight riders are doomed. And then you have shilpa who hip shaked her way into IPL, she can sure do a good job coaching the cheerleader group of Rajasthan Royals, but shilpa sorry your Rajasthan royals are going down. And that bloody dimple preity, gosh I don’t want to start. Preity keep you dimple and liril soap at home.
Fact – IPL killed cricket
I may not be a cricket expert but I sure can comment on it. I remember the days where is grew up watching wasim akram, Courtney walsh, Waugh brothers, tendulkar …. Etc. When cricket was all about the passion. We learnt strokes, bowling styles and most importantly watched cricket to learn the game. IPL is all about winning or loosing. It does not have a set framework like true cricket.
Why I Hate IPL ?
Spirit of Cricket is lost.
Skill involved is terrible.
IPL insults and disgraces cricket in its truest form
Does not reward proper batsman-ship or bowling – its all bout the money
A country known for its passion for cricket has just sold it self to the devil. I can go on and on folks but all you IPL lovers know you just watch the game for the hype. Am sure 9 out of 10 IPL fans have never lifted a bat or ball. You just want to be cool and fit into the crowd. If you truly love cricket ….. oh shit am getting all senty…. Do what you want to. :)
But I Hate IPL, Period.
Cheers

Megapixels = Megabullshit !!!!
Mr Raj works in a bank and comes from a lower middle class conservative family. He wants to buy a new camera to keep those priceless memories. He decides to got a show room and buy him self the latest one. As soon as he walks into the showroom he is greeted by several advertisements and the only thing that catches his attention are the large fonts saying “megapixel”. After being bombarded by the Ads he walks into the showroom.
Raj - Hi I am looking for a camera.
Saleman - Yes, here is the canon camera, and it is 10.3 megapixel, with blah blah
Here is the Nikon camera with 13.4 megapixel .
Most ordinary people need a basic point to shoot camera, as their need is only to click basic photos. The question is does Mr Raj really need a 10 megapixel camera to take a simple snap of his family in front of taj mahal.
For all you camera lovers here a myth that is certainly the biggest rip-off, often used by camera manufacturing companies, retailers and salesman. The first thing in a TV commercial on you latest camera, the first words by your friendly yet sly salesman are “megapixel”
This trick is used by salesman and camera manufacturers to make you feel as if your current camera is inadequate and needs to be replaced even if the new cameras each year are only slightly better.
Whats a pixel ?
A photo is made up of little dots called pixels. Pixel stands for PICture ELement. Put enough of them together and you have a picture. They are arranged horizontally and vertically. Get close enough to your computer screen (or use a magnifier) and you'll see them.
Image Resolution
Resolution is the number of pixels you have counted horizontally or vertically of a photo. Most cameras today have between 2,048 and 4,500 pixels horizontally. A 3 MP cameras have 2,048 pixels horizontally and 14 MP cameras have 4,500 pixels. They have fewer pixels vertically since the images aren't as tall as they are wide.
That's not much of a difference, is it ?
Unless you are planning to print a billboard of your photos you can make do with a 5 megapixel camera.
What matters in you camera ?
Lens – The lens is the eye of the camera, quality of the lens is what decides the sharpness of the image formed on the CCD final, thus decides outcome of the photo. You only see the values of this in a digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera, where you can change the lenses. Same camera, different lens, and the pictures can improve vastly.
CCD – It is Like the engine of a car, the CCD sensor in a digital camera acts as the primary tool to capture an image. In its most elementary form, the CCD sensor is like the camera's "electronic eye": collecting light and converting it to charge, and subsequently emitting the signal that results in a digital image.
Next time you walk into a showroom to buy a camera you know if the sales man keeps rattling megapixel, just shut him up.
If you good friend cays he has the latest 8 megapixel camera phone, and you only have the good old 3 megapixel camera just click the same picture and you will see the difference.
Try this out friends.
Conclusion – Megapixel = Big bullshit story

Home sick blues
Where are those places
Where are those people
How will I know ?
How will I find ?
Distant memories come close
Morbid dreams uncover
Its hard my friend, Its hard
Where are them good times?
Where are them familiar faces
How will I know?
How will I find?
Good Times seldom remembered
The smile comes back
Its not easy my friend, it not easy

Snippets for a worried mind
Jim wakes up, only to wonder what this new-fangled day has in store. Wary thoughts keep troubling his fragile mind, bogged down by petty worries. The ceiling fan rotating is reminiscent of his life itself. The callous breath he takes is a seldom reminder of the fine whiskey he quietly worked through last night. Suddenly while rubbing his eyes slow flashes from the night come back, he briefly remembers what he did.
Every step to the bathroom becomes an eternity. Following a slow rumble in the tummy saliva starts to fill up his mouth and boom it all came out, the little unpleasant smell in the bathroom makes him puke. After all that trouble he finally gives it all away, then you look into the mirror and say “Am done doing this”.
Then to clear things he takes the long route of introspection. Now this road is not new to him, he has been there many times. The difference between this and the others is this time the road is nearing the end. His job, his friends, the ever present girlfriend and of course that money crisis, just keeps giving him hits that the worse is yet to come.
The coffee machine rings an alarm, he quietly snubs it off. Lost in a sea of thoughts he tosses few eggs and sausages. The loud neighbors trying to sort out their issues takes him back to the house he lived in not too long ago. Through the broken window he looks at some thing that brings a big smile on his face, the world to him suddenly changes. There she stood in a red skirt, her long curly black hair adorned her almost pallid face.
After a few moments of bliss his PDA rang, he wonders who could call him on this disastrous Sunday morning. He looked at the phone screen, and then disaster. His boss who is on his quite little hiatus calls to check on how the business is doing. The last things on his mind are numbers and figures. He tries to ignore the call, but then some thing makes him pick it up.
After pick up the call, he switches on the ‘suck up’ button. The nasty laugh of his boss followed by a line of questions to which half prompted answer slyly manages to suffice. In the back ground are the laughs of his innocent yet subtly nasty kids and not to forget that creepy wife. After that never ending conversation you switch that damn PDA.
Then a familiar sound, it’s the grumpy servant, who in all ways wants to get into his life. After entering she sniffs around like a sewer rat, trying to pick us scents of doubt. He carries on into the light starved bed room after a set of instructions. The wall thronged by half naked posters of women, rock n roll bands, a bed which converts into a useful cupboard, empty bottles of Carlsberg and a whole bunch of books. Also in the room was his priced possession, a uber cool mountain bike and his trekking gear.
He lies back on the bed trying to figure out a plan for the long boring day ahead, after a lot of thinking he picks up the phone and calls a few people. No one responds in a way that will suffice his need. Then he decides to take a quiet walk to have a look at the word from the street. At the local coffee bar where a few hookers, they all seemed to be very motivated to get him for some reason. He was not interested in any unacquainted company, he prefers the more “clean” form of company. Little ahead was the local town ground, usually filled with the town goons and ruffians. The gang wars and murders are very famous here, but the cops ignore it.
He walks down ignoring the curses and slang’s by the troublesome faces. Then a pleasant smell greets him, he smiles, knowing he is headed in the right direction. Around the corner are a few hippies playing the banjo and guitar strumming songs of peace and freedom. In the crowd was this seemingly interesting face that caught his eye. He had this instinct for beautiful women, an art he had perfected over the years. Not to say his looks where pervasive, he could not help, he was born with.
In the background of all this, he heard a rough voice “what’s a fine lad like you doing here”.
“If i may offer you my services, from a fine beautiful lady to a little wacky to the Alabama green” with a pause... “I got it all”.
Without much thought he slips in a few bucks, a quite hand shake and he was off. He then walked towards pesos, the pub to have a few beers. Pesos was a famous joint, a meeting place for musicians, artists, hippies, stoners and the local junta. It served only beer, and was popular for its brunch services. Stakes, pop corn, chicken dosa’s where famous on its menu.
He had a few beers, made conversation with random folks who usual spent most of their Sunday’s drinking beer. Half way through his beer, memories flashed through his head, the times when he had a rather successful job guaranteeing him a fat pay check. He spent weekends just getting drunk at pubs with his friends. Friends were a very integral part of life, he valued them and cherished them. Like others he believed in loyalty and trust.
But there was one episode or segment of his life that always bogged down his contented yet troubled mind. Now every time he looks back all he gets are brief bouts of panic , he tries hard not to remember it, but some how like thick glue it sticks onto him.
Not too long ago when he lived in the upper side of the city he was in a gang, and yes this was no ordinary gang. They where notorious and selfless, haunting the neighborhood and casing immense trouble. He was young and careless, though he has a generous job he still choose to be part of the gang. The idea of why never struck him.
One day at a bar while drinking with his friends he bumped into his friend from school. She was surprised to see him and invited him over for a drink. After having a dozen rounds of chivas and laughter filled conversation he asked her over for dinner. He also made confessions of how he used to flutter around her in school and the fact the she never acknowledged Him, nobody liked Jim. He was a reasonably chubby and irritable kid.
“lets get out of this noise, I know a diner close bye” jim said
“I may be drunk but your certainly are asking me out” she blushed.
They cleared the cheque and off they where. They decided to take the alley ways to the diner. Jim was trying to be witty; giving a build up to what could be his lucky night.
“shall we go to my place directly, I have some dinner at home” very slimily he said.
“well, how can I refuse”, she said
They then took a quick detour and started walking towards his place. Remember he had never been attracted by lust, but this time something about her struck him.
As the approached the alley towards his place, they heard some scuffle and shouting. Some voices seemed familiar to him
To be continued when my brain switches back ……..

The road less travelled
There is a lot to say
There is a lot to feel
My mind wanders
My heart wonders
Which way shall I go?
Who shall I ask?
Strangers pass by this long road
Stories shared on the way
How may you be my friend?
How may you be?
There is a lot to free
There is a lot to get
My mind still wanders
My heart tranquil wonders

Recession – viral fever – My perspective to so called threat (KRISHNA T.K)
I fell sick some time back, the routine cold, cough and fever. While lying on the bed i tried to link recession and fever, the similarites and differences . I immediately opened my laptop and after googling a little I came to understand that they are not too different.
Fever is caused due to release of certain chemicals by white blood cells as they attack invaders. Getting this once in a while is considered healthy. It is said when the body has taken too much fever is a way to cleanse the system and throw out all unwanted things. This is what got me to blog this post.
Recession, you must have heard this word a zillion times in the last few months. Quite frankly it annoys me. Your local TV station and news paper repeatedly banging it down your head, you bank putting up posters of warning, you boss enlightening you on cost cutting measures and most importantly you cut on the daily dose of Vodka (recession=cuts on expenses, booze included) . Recession this, recession that (can you please shut the F#$@ up). Strange as it may seem, bad times can also be good for health. When the world markets explode in volumes, banks give out loans at random, people spend mindlessly, bureaucrats and politicians make more money , its obvious that the whole bubble is going to explode….. Some body has to step into stop the mess. And viola, we got recession.
This way recession makes people and economies realize that they got them selves in a big mess. You may think I am crazy with my so called theory, but hell if they can have their own, why not me. Just before you get a fever you know you have eaten a lot of rubbish, you have not been exercising, you bounced out of your routine, you have been drinking and partying frequently. Then the body says ' hey you better stop or else am gonna mek you ". Slowly the fever hits you and then you say “I got to take care of my Health”.
Same with recession the whole world is exploding with money, companies balance sheets flourish, stock markets on the bear. But some one knows that the whole shit house is gonna explode like a big bag of poop. In any case what is the world cribbing about, most of them have made hell a lot of money, its the poor who are f!@#$ , not the rich. The middle class are there just to scare the wits of the poor and make rich feel better.
Once the recession started Banks started to take caution in giving loans, Governments start spending more they cut interest rates, gave more stimulus (anti biotics), People cut down on unhealthy expenses. Is'nt this a little like recession . I think its healthy for any thing to have a bad time, and so my good buddies fever and recession are not too different.
Wired me huh :)
Think about it am I not in some way right ?

rishikesh-hardwar-roorke
After getting a bit of Himachal Pradesh last october I decided to check out Uttharkand. I headed to Rishikesh, a 6 hour drive from Delhi. Its been many years dreaming of seeing the Ganga. And off I was, on the way to rishikesh. Travel is a sort of way to de-stress.
Not a very religious person, a little spiritual, a little atheist, that’s me. The haridwar evening pooja for Ganga. It was something I had to watch. It was off season, not too many people where at the Pooja. On the banks where a thousand people, all chanting in rhythm waiting to dip them selves in Ganga. The water was freezing, I decided not to take a dip. After clicking a few photos I proceeded to Rishikesh.
It is holy city for Hindus and a famous center of pilgrimage. It is also known as the gateway to the Himalayas. “Hṛṣīkeśa" is a name of Lord Vishnu. It is said Lord Vishu him self appeared in front of a rishi who had devoted to his life. It indecently is a holy place of followers of lord Ram, who came here to do penance after killing Ravana.
It was dark, I did not get to see Ganga properly. On reaching the camp site, Keerthi our, host treated us with a hot cup of tea and snacks. Lead us to our tent and gave us a brief of the next days plan.
The drive to rishikesh was quite bumpy, all I wanted was a good night of rest. Spent a few quite moments by the bank and slept outside in my handy sleeping bag. The night was cold, but the moon and the countless stars gave me the best view.
Slowly fatigue got the best of me, I quietly dosed off. Waking up at 6 to actually see what was around me. Few feet away the Ganga, and a beautiful blueish-purplish sky. The ganga flows through Rishikesh and is know for its fierce rapids and currents. The water is a mix of green and brown, which gives it a very distinct colour. Many rock and roll bands like the Beatles, rolling stone have come here. Back to my gyan ….
To be continued …….

Music, the only thing around i trust.
The only friend i can rely on.
The only sound that constantly echos in my mind.
Music is science, music is mathematical
Music is a language.
Why do i need music ?
To be relaxed,
To recognize things around me,
To get the control out of mind.
I take bath with music,
I work with music,
I speak with music.
It is beyond the mind, heart or soul
Cheers to music !!!!
"Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water-bath is to the body."

Cut, copy and paste
Dog used to be man’s best friends, fortunately or unfortunately Google had replaced our dear old friend. Google, the baby of Larry Page and Sergey Brin started out as a college project in Stanford College and now one of the largest Internet based company with a revenue of around $ 17 billion. Ok that’s a good enough introduction of Google. Journalist, don’t need any introduction; we report issues in the most objective and unbiased way to serve the public good. At least that what we all think we do.
Now am going to tittle-tattle about a great union that has developed over the last few years and the art of CCP (cut, copy paste). Google was our best buddy in college, last minute assignments, articles and features solely relied on Google. Cut, copy, paste your main points and just fill in the rest. Viola, you have an A+ assignment.
Most of us in college knew a day will come when we would join work and not file an article without Google’s help. After joining work I was blown aback. Most people at work solely relied on Google. Am not saying it’s wrong, but I’ve seen many people CCP a large chunk of their copies. Best part bosses encourage this whole affair. CCPing some one else’s research and data is not just.
For my blog a CCP can be justified, as am not trying to sell my information. But at work I do feel very guilty as I’ve become addicted to CCPing.

My job - a mean world
With no other substitute I took up journalism as my first job. After completing my degree in commerce i mostly bummed around for a while, in fact 2 years. Even today there is no clarity on what i want to become, my future (career) has not been planned. On the other hand one thing is clear; i want to run my own business. Arrogance and ego being my two best friends will not see me to the top of any organization.
I am undergoing this training module by an Australian Journalist. From the brief interaction with him I have come to understand that the Indian media industry functions differently. Just like the government offices we Indians make life tough in our jobs.
You don’t need to be a psychologist to understand and interpret the unwanted behavior of Indian Media professionals. For example most people in my office unnecessarily make a noise over trivial issues. When I asked a senior why? She replied ‘this is how we function, and chaos is good for the industry’. In my opinion the most nutty and arrogant answer.
Even the Australian guy agrees that though we journalists may be the people with an opinion (at least that’s what they say) just function as bad as a regime office.
I am an amateur photographer and in my idea I can click pretty decent photos. Hence, I have certain knowledge about the functions of a video camera. However at the office, ‘journalist’ like me are not allowed to use the camera. I don’t get it, when a person is qualified enough to operate a camera why shouldn’t he/she use it.
Day by day it has become quite evident to me that am not cut out to be a journalist. The only problem is what can I do next ? well clock is ticking Krishna, wake up !!!! ;)

She is mean, clean and has got the moves
Who is this ?
This is my new found interest and passion. Her name Firefox Dart 2.6. She has got two wheels, built of a complete steel-aluminum alloy. With 6 gears she moves like the wind.
Every time i passed the firefox showroom during my college days i wanted to get my hands on one of these babies. I decided that when i start working i will buy one. And here she is, riding her around takes me into another world.
I have got some crazy plans, but what can i do?.... need more money. So for now let the plans take a back seat and work take the drivers. Soon, yes soon them crazy fantasies will come true.

My emotions begin to collide
Calm and composed they claim
the so called self flourishes
amidst brief affirmative moments
My emotions begin to swell
Calm and composed they claim
the abode calls in the distance
Trapped between a grueling judgment
My emotions begin to raze
Calm and composed they claim
The dream goes into the oblivion
The conflict gets stern
The light ebbs
The night creeps in
Life goes on ...........

Media terrorism
It has been a week since terror struck in Mumbai, the city is back to its usual Hum-Drum. Most Mumbaikars have forgotten about the incident. However the relentless coverage by the media does not seem to die, a week after the attacks the media are still looking at new electrifying angles on the incident. . Most importantly they always speak about the so called "spirit" of Mumbai. While most people recognize that this too shall pass, the media keeps banging it back into their head that some thing terrible happened.
The Media was busy telecasting the assault in turn assisting the terrorist who where watching the live telecast in the hotels. The Ministry of Information and broadcasting had requested TV channels not to telecast the live footage as it could jeopardise the operations . But no, our TV Channels did not comply, they inturn sent out a battalion of reporters and camerapersons.
And the most frustrating craze ‘breaking news’, every telecast is somehow breaking news. The relentless pursuit of the gun battle inside the Taj was Hyped by the Media. And if i where given a choice i would say a big No-No
I choose journalism as a profession, am I in the right place ????

I sit here, with out a sail
Days pass, random thoughts repeat
Direction lacks, the Path is uncertian
Brief moments of joy, shadowed by moments of agony
The pain appears and again dissapears
Persistance , the only constant action
Seems to relieve the confused mind
Is it good ? is it bad ?

an itenary of a vauge traveller
Travelling is my Spa, it gives me the ultimate massage. My goal is to make enough money by the age of 40 and travel the rest of my life. Most people plan their vacation through some sleazy travel agent, who only cares about his pay check. A big con job who makes people go gaga over some monument, river, mountain or statue. Most people don't know that either ways they are going to drop their jaws over something beautiful, common logic.
When i travel i go by the cheapest mode of transport, not because i cannot afford it but because it gives you a better perspective.Trust me this is where you meet the most fascinating people You can actually strike a decent conversation with many folks there .
On my last trip i choose to take the local bus from Patankot to Dharmasala, i met this old man ( least a 90 + ). He told me stories on how he travelled 40 km on foot every day, once he reached kashmir on foot all alone. He jus amazed me by his strong character, i lent him a hand while gettin down but he refused.
I always wish i was born a few hundred years ago, i am guessing life would have been much easier. We so damn dependant on these machines. Put the most intelligent man with an IQ over 150 betcha he would not know how to survive over 2 days alone. I believe the whole purpose of life is to be able to use nature and learn to be one with it.
Ok back to travelling, a tip from me, when you are going to travel choose a place of choice, carry the minimum amount of money and clothes and just wander off - Don't plan
cheers
