A few weeks back me and a two close friends thought of breaking free from the normal city routine. And so we decided to go for a trek to Savandurga. We reached there by 5 and waited for the sun to come out. Savandurga is one of India's largest monolith situated 70 kilometers from Bangalore.
We started our ascent to the top of the hill located around 1250 ft above sea level. The trek is quite hard as some places of the rock face can be as steep as 50-60 degrees. And it gets slippery if it is not cautiously scaled. The monolith has many forts built around during the 1700's and the name was coined then 'Savandurga' or fort of death. There is a Nandi on top of the hill to mark the kempegowda empire, there are many stories.
Many people told me it is very unsafe and risky to climb the hill, Trust me it is very easy and quite safe. Suprisingly me and my friends took just a little over and hour to reach the top. Though my calves were paining it was all worth when we had the most magnificent view from the top.
We spent about and hour up and then proceeded back down which took us just under an hour. All in all the three of us felt satisfied as it was mission accomplished.
